Job Description ENGAGEMENT SPECIALIST InterCommunity, Inc. is a growing, progressive, non-profit community health center with over 35 years of experience in the community. We are currently recruiting for an ENGAGEMENT SPECIALISTS IN THE HARTFORD ALTERNATIVE TO ARREST PROGRAM (HAAP) in our Behavioral Health Division. At least one of the positions will be bilingual (English/Spanish). These individuals will:

  • Work with the City of Hartford police to identify individuals who have substance use or related mental health needs, and connect those individuals to services as an alternative to arrest
  • Assess participants to determine needs and develop a plan to meet those needs
  • Assist participants in accessing services and resources including substance use treatment, mental health treatment, medical care, entitlements, social supports, peer supports, food, clothes, personal care items, recovery supports, and other community supports
  • Maintain data on program activity and outcomes, and produce periodic reports as needed and scheduled
  • Convene and facilitate periodic meetings with police, program staff, and other stakeholders to review cases and address processes and protocols
  • Ability to perform the job functions on a mobile basis, including client transportation in a personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement provided)

    To be considered for this position, an applicant MUST meet the following requirements:

    • A masters or bachelor’s degree. An associate’s degree will be considered
    • A thorough knowledge of substance use disorders and related mental health conditions
    • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
    • The ability to produce effective written documentation
    • Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment
    • Current computer skills/ability to type efficiently
    • The ability to approach all aspects of the work from a culturally competent, trauma informed, gender responsive and recovery oriented perspective

    Strong candidates should also possess:

    • Knowledge of Recovery Oriented Behavioral Health in Connecticut
    • A belief that every individual in need deserves quality service and an opportunity for recovery
