Job Description

The Senior Commercial Loan Officer will be responsible for direct and indirect management and supervision of the most complex commercial loan relationships as well as the performance oversight of the Commercial Services Lending team.  As an active lender, the Senior Commercial Loan Officer will develop, underwrite and originate new account relationships, in addition to developing and carrying out marketing strategies for commercial loan promotion.  He/she will also serve as a member of the senior management team and the ALM committee.

 

  • Responsible for commercial loan business development efforts, commercial loan processing, and servicing of commercial products loans.
  • Manage commercial service personnel by making routine employment decisions, interview and select Commercial Loan department staff, review performance, make salary recommendations, assign work, provide training and guidance, and advise subordinates as necessary.
  • Manage commercial loan sales for new and current accounts to meet established lending requirements while maximizing profitability to the bank with a minimum of risk.
  • Develop and maintain business relationships through community and ongoing contacts.  Be a resource for customers on business management and commercial matters and assist with the development of materials and products for presentations and marketing.
  • Oversee and carry out processes for underwriting commercial loan requests.
  • Evaluate credit worthiness of prospective borrower on basis of interviews, financial data and personal judgment.
  • Approve loans up to the designated amount and serve as the Contact Officer on loans above the limit.
  • Consummate loans by documenting interest rates, terms, special conditions; securing all necessary notes, pledges, guarantees, collateral, etc.
  • Assist other lenders with underwriting and approval of commercial loan requests.
  • Ensure the protection of the Bank's interests in matters of adequate documentation and adherence to Bank policy and the various laws and regulations applicable to department operations, as well as the exercise of sound credit decisions in the commercial credit area.
  • Manage the Bank’s commercial loan pipeline to ensure that staff is working on appropriate transactions.
  • Provide periodic guidance on loan pricing,
  • Serve as a member of Bank ALM committee.
  • Plan, manage and undertake Sales and Development of other bank related products, i.e. cross-sell bank products, oversee the call program to independently identify potential business, obtain leads and develop a team approach with the Commercial Services Group.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of SBA lending, are followed and ensure that commercial lending staff are kept informed and that complete and accurate application, approval and closing documentation per regulations and guidelines.
  • As it relates to SBA lending, will oversee all SBA reporting, monitor all interest rate changes, conduct prepayment negotiations and authorizations, repurchase loans, act as a liaison for the bank, and liquidate loans. 
  • In conjunction with the President, supervise the collection activities of the commercial lending staff including developing strategies for legal collections and workouts.
  • Participate in Strategic Planning while collaborating with executive management to develop/enhance the commercial services loan and product portfolio.
  • Monitor all letters of credit and issue monthly report. 
  • Will actively engage in the local community by participating in voluntary community service organizations, projects, and activities.
  • Following State and other applicable guidelines and regulations, will regularly retain and safeguard all relevant records for their area of responsibility.
  • Assume management responsibilities of a $50MM portfolio that is currently assigned to the Bank President and CEO. 
  • Build strong relationships and credibility with Board of Directors, senior management, and the commercial lending team.
  • Job Requirements
    • BS or BA in Business Management. A concentration in Accounting is preferred.
    • Minimum of 10 years of commercial banking experience.
    • Understanding of commercial market and applications. 
    • Thorough knowledge and underwriting and documentation of commercial loan products. 
    • Ability to review and approve loans.
    • Thorough knowledge of commercial loan collection activities. 
    • Familiarity with legal terms and commercial law.
    • Responsible for keeping up to date with pertinent banking regulations and banking principles.
    • Software Utilized: Word, Excel, Outlook and other relevant software.
