Summary:

The primary function of the Senior Claims Examiner is to handle assigned claim files to appropriate conclusion, within designated level of authority and in accordance with Company guidelines. Claim assignments involve complex/high exposure litigation and/or coverage issues associated with excess/surplus lines classes or business. Claims assigned to Sr. Litigation Examiner are generally of progressively higher complexity/exposure.

 

Senior Claims Examiner Responsibilities:

  • Handles assigned claims involving complex/high exposure coverage and litigation issues, in compliance with policy provisions, applicable laws and regulations, internal procedures, and within designated authority.
  • Analyzes coverage for assigned claims.
  • Drafts/sends formal written correspondence including Reservation of Rights, Excess and Declination letters as appropriate.
  • Assigns losses to and directs activities of approved investigators and defense attorneys as appropriate in compliance with Company guidelines.
  • Manages/controls expenses associated with investigation and defense of assigned claims.
  • Establishes and maintains accurate loss reserves in compliance with Company guidelines.
  • Negotiates and authorizes appropriate files for formal Claims Review.
  • Attends mediations and settlement conferences.
  • Completes Reinsurance Reports on appropriate files.
  • Conducts legal research as necessary.

    Senior Claims Examiner Requirements:

  • 7+ years of General Claims experience
  • Litigation Management experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience/professional designation
