The DEVELOPER I reports to the IT MANAGER, BI ARCHITECT and has primary responsibility for duties that focus in the ETL and related application spaces. The Developer I’s role is to design, develop, document, and implement application code in support of organizational functions and business processes. This role will focus on the following: business intelligence, SQL, SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, and data analysis and work with project development teams developing business intelligence solutions. The position requires basic knowledge of building enterprise systems in application frameworks and ETL technology. This role will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help maximize the benefit of IT systems investments. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.


PRIMARY DUTIES


This individual will be involved in a variety of business intelligence activities centered on the organization’s core systems. The primary customer base served includes internal business users. Areas of focus include:

  • APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT [70%]
  • Perform analysis, develop specifications, design, and develop code for new applications within a project team. Consistently generates error-free application and/or system code to meet specifications or statement of problem.
  • Conduct testing (including but not limited to functional, unit, regression) on developed application code and integrations.
  • Analyzes, reviews, and modifies programs to increase operating efficiency.
  • SYSTEMS ANALYSIS [20%]
  • Consult with Business and Systems Analysts in assigned projects to identify user needs and project task requirements.
  • Evaluates development projects to determine feasibility, time requirements, and interface requirements with existing systems.
  • DOCUMENTATION & COMMUNICATION[10%]
  • Prepare documentation for the systems/programs in accordance with department and corporate standards.
  • Prepare and submit project status and/or other reports to the Project Manager as required.
  • Conduct effective, on-going communication, both written and verbal.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in software, system development, and be informed of the latest techniques, technologies, and practices.
  • Job Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree in the field of computer science or management information systems.
    • Experience in T-SQL, SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, BIDS, TFS, and data analysis.
    • Experience writing complex SQL statements with solid understanding of underlying performance considerations. Demonstrated proficiency with SQL including use of embedded SQL within high level languages for database access.
    • Working knowledge of asp.NET, C#/VB.NET, Active Directory, MS Office.
    • Working knowledge of Access and SQL Server 2005+.
    • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
    • Highly self motivated and directed.
    • Must be willing to travel as needed (<5%).

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


    • Experience with SQL Server 2005+ and BI Tools.


    PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT


    • The working conditions for this position would be anticipated to be those typical to an office. There may be minimal need to visit laboratories or manufacturing sites. There is minimal physical effort required for this position other than typing. The types of hazards would be typical to those seen in an office environment.
