Job Description
Basic Function The Web Systems Administrator configures and maintains hardware and software critical to the functionality of the organization's enterprise web applications, core to the operation. Monitors usage and performance, creates and maintains backups, and troubleshoots and resolves issues as they arise. The Web Systems Administrator is expected to drive infrastructure design for web based applications, manage projects, and be responsible for deployment of applications to production environments. The Web Systems Administrator is expected to have in-depth understanding of standard system administration concepts, practices, and procedures specifically in deployments supporting enterprise applications deployed over web based architectures. The Web Systems Administrator would also have in depth knowledge of the Microsoft IIS/.NET middleware products utilized by the application.
Job Requirements
Job Responsibilities Performs system administration tasks required to support application development, deployment, integration, QA and production processes. Install, configure and administer servers, including multiple server instances, standalone, clusters, connection pools, and load balancing. Implement patches, updates, and fixes as necessary following established Change Management processes. Develop scripts/utilities to automate repetitive tasks, i.e. backups, refreshes, failover. Utilize a working knowledge of web application development to troubleshoot technical issues, i.e. error messages, software bugs, availability, etc. Define common processes and procedures to ensure server stability, performance and availability. Define thresholds for monitoring various metrics of the application server environment. Participate in the planning and design of the application server architecture to support business goals. Monitor application servers and tune servers for optimal delivery of applications and services. Provide technical expertise to development and deployment teams on integration/configuration of load balancers, encryption, application security, LDAP, middleware and web servers. Work with various team members to provide 24x7 production supports. Participate in on-call rotation schedule. Respond to support tickets and provide timely resolution of problems Participate effectively in execution of projects to support development, integration, production and infrastructure deliverables. Responsible for code promotion process to staging and production servers. Experience with IIS Development teams on code promotions and replication configuration Hours Work hours are scheduled by department management based on current business needs. Skills Strong knowledge of worker process, thread allocation, application pools, worker process settings. Excellent Knowledge of Network Technology (Design of TCP/IP, UDP, IPV4, IPV6, DNS, SSL, Load Balancer) Experience with scripting (VB Script, Powershell) and reporting Experience with working with DMZ security, reverse proxies, and SSL encryption Understanding of database connectivity from web servers. Knowledge of SAN, NAS Data storage devices Must have strong understanding of Enterprise Architecture including web hosting practices, authentication, load balancing, reverse proxies, SSL, DNS, web services, replication, and high availability practices. Knowledge of the Microsoft Team Foundation Suite a plus Must have experience identifying and resolving bottlenecks in n-tier architecture. Ability to work in fast paced environment with constant demand for improvement with environment. Education/Experience Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or related field is a must. 7+ years working in different Windows Enterprise Server version ( Windows 2000, 2003, 2008). 7+ years of IIS Web Administration experience ( Versions: 5, 6, 7) including setup of IIS web sites, virtual directories, web services, and application pools. 5+ years experience installing, upgrading and maintaining .Net framework (3.5, 4.0). 5+ years of experience in setting up DCOM, C#, ASP, .NET2.0, 3.5 applications. 1+ year of development experience desired but not required.
