Job Description Terminal Operator Louisville, KY -  Metro Area  Position Summary

 

Under general supervision of Terminal Manager, the Terminal Operator is responsible for operating all Terminal equipment in connection with receiving, storing, transferring, and loading of petroleum products

 

Direct Responsibilities

 

  • Basic testing of oils, such as viscosity, A.P.I. and flash when necessary.
  • Perform gauging of storage tanks, temperature readouts, and obtaining product samples.
  • Daily meter readings for all products. Calculates and inputs all product inventories and meter readings into appropriate systems
  • Routine maintenance on various operating equipment, including, but not limited to, pumps, valves, meters, compressors, and motors, tanks, pipes, terminal building, and various other equipment.
  • Calibrates and adjustments all additive injection systems as required.
  • Completes all required additive Volumetric Additive Reconciliation documentation on a monthly basis. Takes product samples as required and performs required Quality Control tests and maintains Product Quality Log.
  • Performs all daily, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual maintenance and compliance inspections, and maintains required logs as appropriate in a neat and professional manner.
  • Ensures that all Terminal equipment, including safety devices and systems are functioning properly, and reports any and all equipment failures to supervisor.
  • Performs daily walk around inspections to identify any potential risks and ensure good housekeeping standards are maintained at all times.
  • Issues work permits to contractors performing work at Terminal. Including ensuring that pre-job safety meetings, lockout - tag-out, confined space entry, and gas tech monitoring requirements are met for all work performed at the Terminal.
  • Recognizes and corrects unsafe acts or conditions and/or stops work.
  • Ensures that all contractors follow Company Policies and Procedures when accessing or working in the Terminal. Ensures that all customers and vendors accessing Terminal follow all Terminal Policies and Procedures.

  • Must implement Terminal Emergency Plans in the event of an Environmental, Safety, Health, or Security Incident at the Terminal. Coordinates Emergency Response activities until relieved by Safety Coordinator or management personnel.
  • Communicates product outages and equipment downtime to supervisor, customers, and other impacted parties in a prompt fashion.

    General Duties

     

  • The Terminal Operator is responsible for all operating aspects of the terminal such as inventory control; setting up the terminal for receipt, transfer, storage, load or shipment of product via trucks, railcars, water vessels or tanks; testing of products and documentation of results; maintenance of terminal equipment; preparation of various terminal reports; and general maintenance and upkeep of the facility.

    Job Qualifications

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

    • Strong team orientation yet able to work independently
    • Knowledge of steam boilers, hot oil heaters, loading racks, product blenders and automation systems
    • Good verbal and written communication skills
    • General mathematical skills
    • Mechanical aptitude
    • Must be able to operate all products testing equipment necessary to obtain accurate results
    • Must be able to perform all required mathematical calculations with or without the use of a calculator
    • Must be able to recognize color differences in product samples.
    • Must be able to use basic hand tools
    • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license for state of residence
    • Must have ability to get in and out of vehicles regularly and ride over rough roads

    Experience/Education:

    • High School Graduate, or equivalent
    • Some industry experience preferred

    Working Environment:

    • Must be able to work out of doors in extreme weather and perform heavy physical labor in a safe manner

    • Normal exposure to weather and temperature extremes, cramped spaces, loud noises, chemicals and fumes, dust, heights or work safety hazards
    • Normal amount of overtime or extended work hours required.

    • Normal sense of touch.
    • Maintenance requires climbing onto, under, and on top of all terminal equipment, performing repairs which may need to be done in awkward positions (i.e., bending over and reaching, lying on back and reaching, replacing long stretches (up to 100 feet) of loading hose, etc.
    • Ability to lift 50 – 75 lbs on a regular basis
    • Must be able to climb heights in excess of 60’.
    • May work in confined spaces (i.e. tanks, between compressors, vessels).
    • Normal coordination, including eye-hand, hand-foot.
    • Normal memory, taking into consideration the amount and type of information.
    • Normal ability to see, distinguish colors, hear, smell and taste.
