  • About the Job

    The Telecommunication Technicians/Wireless Tower Climbers is a field engineering position that supports tests and troubleshoots a wide range of technical, IP-based equipment on tower sites. As a member of the Wireless Tower Climbers/Technicians team, this individual will support a proprietary wireless network, and reports to the Network Operations Manager. This is a full-time position requiring flexibility to work day, evening and night shifts; weekends and holidays as needed for our 24x7x365 operations of the wireless network. Travel is required but limited to a regional area within the geographical network. A company vehicle and all equipment and tools will be provided.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain customer’s networks and systems based on the Service Level Agreements (SLA) and up-time of systems
  • Provide analysis of all client network devices and equipment to predict system failure.
  • On-site maintenance of equipment and repair.
  • Monitor connectivity of networks and hardware ensuring all problems are documented and communicated to the appropriate individuals.
  • Interpret alarms and messages and react appropriately
  • Under supervisor of the Network Operations Manager, coordinate the activities of and dispatch field technicians, vendors or contractors across many client sites
  • Schedule testing and maintenance windows with clients as needed
  • Ability to climb upwards of 200 – 300 feet while carrying tool bag along with other labor intensive tasks
  • Perform general rigging and lofting operations
  • Ability to work outside in all elements; including but not limited to snow, rain and extreme temperatures

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Associates degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience Bachelor’s degree in a technical or quantitative discipline is strongly preferred in telecommunications, computer science, or a related field.
    • Three or more years of progressive experience in the telecommunications/IT field
    • Must have aptitude in IP networking, including IP addressing, basic routing, IPv6.
    • Must demonstrate in depth knowledge of hardware construction including: coax and category cable, punching, proper cable pulling techniques, racking, ground systems, static precautions, non-ionizing transmission safety, OSHA construction safety. Will be required to drive large vehicles and operate heavy machinery.
    • Can identify all major types of video, RF, Fiber and power connectors.
    • Understands AC and DC power systems and conversions including: voltage and wiring of single and poly-phase alternating current cables, direct current, and negative grounded direct current.
    • Basic working knowledge of electronics Qualified candidates are required to have a minimum of two years of telecom and construction experience. 
    • Tower Certification: (Authorized Climber/Rescuer) according to ANSI standards and OSHA is a plus, otherwise training is provided.
    • Must have the ability to climb all types of communication and radio towers and not be afraid of heights is a plus.  
    • Must have 3 years of tower experience and must be a proficient sweep tester and able to troubleshoot. 
    • Must be experienced in all aspects of line and antenna system installation, replacement and maintenance i.e. coax, jumpers, TMA’s, connectors, weatherproofing, etc. 
    • Experience with antenna alignments using the Spectrum Analyzer tool is a plus. 
    • Use of Power Meter, Frequency Counter and Digital Voltmeter
    • Industry knowledge of proper procedures regarding microwave and monopoles installations desirable

    OTHER SKILLS

    • Candidate must have a clean driving record and be able to pass a drug test and background check.
    • Work-flow documentation of data environment
    • Strong analytic and creative problem solving abilities required.
    • Responsible for wide range of equipment installation, testing and repair in office and on client locations.
    • Demonstrates an aptitude for quick problem diagnosis and resolution
    • Is very organized and can maintain an inventory of tools, parts, and equipment in their assigned truck. Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to the mission of company
    • Must be able to work in a team

    **All three locations (Chicago, Philadelphia and Pittsburg) are for full-time opportunities. The qualified candidate will need to live within the region and be able to travel to multiple locations on a daily basis.**
