Mortgage Underwriter Job Summary:

  • Evaluate and analyze residential mortgage loan packages (Jumbo, FHA, VA, Conventional, etc.) submitted for approval for possible sale in the Secondary Market
  • Determine borrowers' credit worthiness and acceptability of properties offered as security in real estate loan transactions.

    Mortgage Underwriter Daily Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and underwrite complex Jumbo loan applications (Loans in excess of 1 M)
  • Strong ability to analyze complex tax returns, scheduled fees, investments and deductions
  • Analyze possible loans for the Secondary Market sale and ensure the loans meet the Secondary Market requirements.
  • Review loan approval conditions prior to funding of loans
  • Communicate with residential lending sales and operations staff regarding  loan decisions,  conditions, scenarios, and underwriting guidelines.
  • Provide training and work direction to lower level Underwriters.
  • Analyze requests for exceptions to policy and determine acceptability to the risk requirements.
  • May require supervision of staff during the manager's absence
  • Perform other duties as assigned
    • Job RequirementsMortgage Underwriter Qualifications
    • 7-10+ years of Underwriting experience required with a minimum of 5 years of manual underwriting experience for residential mortgages
    • Jumbo loan experience strongly preffered
    • Advanced knowledge of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae underwriting and appraisal guidelines
    • Supervisory experience preferable but not required

     

    Compensation:

    75,000.00-85,000.00/ annually, depending on Underwriting experience, plus overtime pay   * Selected candidates must be able to work overtime
