Salary Range: $29,835 - $37,293 annual salary depending on experience  

Employment Type: Regular Full Time Fiscal Year (12 Mos.)  
Standard Work Hours: 8:00 am-4:30 pm, occasional evenings and weekend work  

Job Summary:
Volunteer State Community College is seeking a qualified individual as a Student Support Services TRIO Program Counselor to assist program participants with persistence to graduation, transferring to 4-year institutions, and accessing needed academic and/or counseling services.  

Essential Job Functions:
Assist Director with selection process of program participants.
Assist in developing goal plans and graduation plans for program participants.
Facilitate group/individual academic advising, counseling, orientation and workshops.
Assist with academic and peer support groups for program participants.
Coordinate all support services of the program.
Administer and interpret academic assessments and career inventories.
Assist students in preparing for transfer to a four-year institution, including college tours.
Track program participants through completion of educational objectives using databases, student records and other available resources.
Maintain knowledge of academic support, scholarship and financial literacy resources.
Maintain communication and social media technology for TRIO, including TRIO's Facebook page, Twitter, TRIO Quest (national TRIO technology competitions), TRIO TRIUMPHS Newsletter, etc.
Assist Director with evaluation of the program and generating reports outlining progress of the students and the overall program.
Perform all other duties as assigned by Director.  

Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree required
Minimum one (1) year of experience in academic advising and/or career counseling
Minimum one (1) year of experience working with non-traditional, low-income, first generation and/or disabled students
Experience in maintaining databases, records and generate reports
Excellent computer skills
Excellent customer service skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
