Job Description

The Healthcare Economics Manager will research and investigate key business problems through quantitative analyses of utilization and healthcare costs data. The position will provide management with statistical findings and conclusions, identify potential areas for medical cost improvements and alternative pricing strategies, and provide data in support of actuarial, financial and utilization analyses. Primary job responsibilities include the following: Recruit, manage, and develop a team of analysts in a matrix reporting environment. Quantitative analyses of unitization and cost data. Evaluate hospital, physician, and ancillary contracts for unit cost impacts. Evaluate capitation, incentive proposals, settlements, and FFS equivalents. Conduct unit cost reporting and forecasting to support monthly reserves, forecasts, and the annual bid process. Identify and develop targets for UHN network remediation, and track progress. Build strong inter-dependent relationships within the organization as appropriate, including finance, network pricing, product pricing, underwriting, and clinical operations areas. Candidate must be self-driven, with ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment. Manages and is accountable for professional employees and/or supervisors. Impact of work is most often at the local level.
Job Requirements
Required qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, finance, economics, or a related degree • 2 or more years of Healthcare financial analysis experience in a managed care environment • Advanced level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Access • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact collaboratively with internal customers across multiple departments and business segments • Experience in prioritizing work on multiple complex assignments with ongoing deadlines Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with provider capitation and risk arrangements • Knowledge of Medicare provider reimbursement methodologies • Experience with Cognos, Business Objects, or other BI data query and reporting tools UnitedHealthcare, part of the UnitedHealth Group family of companies, is comprised of three specialized businesses dedicated to meeting the health care benefits needs of individuals and groups; all part of something greater, but each with a specialized focus: UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual works with individuals, small businesses and large multi-site employers to provide innovative, affordable benefits services.
