Job Description
Founded in 1986, Mattress Firm, Inc. has grown to become one of the largest and fastest growing specialty retailers in the country. We currently operate over 1000 stores in around 50 markets nationwide... and we're growing! With a strategic growth plan in place, Mattress Firm will nearly triple in size over the next 5 years. Consistent with that rapid growth, we are currently looking for motivated operations manager to join our NH/ME Operations Team. Position summary: Responsible for operating the Distribution center within the established policies and procedures of the company. Works in cooperation with the District Sales Managers to maximize sales and provide exceptional service to our customers. Duties and Responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
Works with Regional Operations Manager to create budgets that achieve the operating and profit goals of the company
Reviews P/L’s with ROM and makes adjustments if necessary to achieve budget goals
Re-orders inventory to maximize sales, bases quantity and item decisions on historic results and future sale events.
Communicates weekly with District Mgr. to have knowledge of future sales events
Continually searches for opportunities to improve efficiencies and improving customer service
Completes projects assigned by the ROP within the time frame requested
Develops assistant manager to have the skills to manage when left in charge
Is responsible for inventory control and other assets of the company
Supervises the inventory process
Schedules weekly inventory cycles
Cooperates with Loss Prevention on audits
Coaches delivery drivers (contract or employees) on their processes to provide the best customer service
Maximizes employee/contractor drivers to increase delivery potential and cost efficiencies
Makes sure sufficient delivery crews and vehicles are available at all times
Promotes “Same Day” deliveries to maximize our operational advantages over our competition
Reviews payroll for accuracy; employee and contractor’s
Communicates with Human Resources on all employee issues regarding discipline or termination prior to reacting with the employee
Sends all required documents to accounting when scheduled
Responsible for the physical condition of equipment and building
Has a knowledge of OSHA laws and complies with all safety procedures
Trains and develops the staff to be successful in completing their job descriptions
Completes performance appraisals of staff
Prepares schedules for the staff

Financially responsible - searches for cost saving measures, understands the importance of working within budgets
Labor laws – has knowledge of basic labor issues, works with the Human Resource department to insure compliance within the department.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises 1 – 2 assistants and a staff between 2-15 employees. Performs duties based on the established policies and procedures of the company. Full-time employees of Mattress Firm are eligible for the following great benefits:

Job Requirements
Education/Experience: Four year degree or 2 years management in the distribution/transportation industry, a combination of education and non-supervisory work experience of 4 years could substitute either requirement Other skills required: Must be skilled in language, grammar and math. The position requires knowledge of computer skills to perform many responsibilities; this includes Excel, Word Physical requirements: While performing the duties of the position a certain amount of physical labor is required. Employee must be capable of lifting and/or move upwards of 100 pounds. Other requirements: Position may require limited travel to meetings, conferences and training opportunities. Pre-employment background and drug screen required.
