Job Description

The EED-2 program is seeking a senior software engineer with proven experience in developing in a ruby on rails environment to support NASA’s Earthdata (earthdata.nasa.gov) earth science portal. As a member of our Earthdata product team, the candidate will be responsible for development activities required to evolve and maintain the Earthdata portal, which serves as the main source of information for the NASA EOSDIS earth science community.

Job Responsibilities:

Support the Earthdata suite of applications (COTS and Custom Built).

Respond to end-user requests in a timely manner.

Support developers and engineers with the automation of tasks and development of scripts.

Develop an integrated testing system to include website testing.

Ensure industry best practices and assets are leveraged when necessary.

Required Skills:

6 years of experience performing operational support duties for a large complex system

3 years of experience working with small web development teams working in an Agile methodology (preferably SCRUM) from initial requirements through delivery and maintenance.

Experience with Cloud Development (AWS), Agile development practices, specifically TDD, BDD, Continuous Integration, and automated testing using Cucumber.

Experience using Ruby on Rails and Java. Ideal candidate would have experience developing RESTful web services, and integrating with existing SOAP services.

Desired Skills:

Familiarity with the Atlassian tool suite (JIRA for bug tracking, Confluence for collaboration, and preferably Bamboo for continuous integration and delivery).

Ability to clearly articulate project status or operational issues to management and to the end users

Proven ability to prioritize, and execute multiple concurrent project activities.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good experience in preparing IT technical documents.
