As a summer intern on the Gannett’s Content Engineering team you will have the chance to contribute to the development of content platform for one of the largest media companies in the world. The USA Today Network powers top news sites and apps like USA Today, The Arizona Republic, Detroit Free Press, and The Indianapolis Star, and as well as the sites of more than 100 additional markets,all from a single shared content platform.
You will be working alongside Gannett Developers from whom you will be able to learn what it takes to enable thousands of journalists to provide the news to millions of readers, every day. Your tasks may include writing and troubleshooting code in Node.js, help develop automated unit and integration tests, build web based tools in Html5 and Angular, or help automate deployment of servers and code. Working in a friendly, collaborative environment you will have the opportunity to develop and expand your skillset and learn from those around you.
You should be working towards a Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science or related field, or have equivalent degree/work experience.
In addition, we’re looking for someone with the following:
Strong problems solving skills with a desire to make a significant contribution
Good written and verbal communications skills
Server side/back end development knowledge or experience
Understanding of service oriented architecture
Experience with source control systems (Git, SVN, TFS, etc.)
It’d be phenomenal if you also had experience with some of the following:
Relational and/or noSQL databases
Search engines (like Solr, Lucene, Elasticsearch, etc.)
Unit and integration testing frameworks
Modern web development using frameworks like React, Angular, Knockout, Backbone, etc.
Experience in a DevOps culture
