Job Description The primary purpose of this position is to supervise the administration of daily outbound shipments to customers and other distribution centers within the organization. Must ensure a safe and secure working environment and operate in a profitable manner.Logistics Supervisor

  • Directs and supervises the work and productivity of local and over the road drivers and clerical associates within the transportation department.
  • Ensures all drivers and other transportation department associates are appropriately trained in job duties as well as safety and legal responsibilities.
  • Anticipates, analyzes and troubleshoots problems with deliveries to include rail operations and devises cost-effective and legal solutions; and acts to implement same.
  • Ensures logical load planning and load pairing daily
  • Schedules drivers for routes based on division devised methodology.
  • Conducts routine Safety and Driver Meetings.
  • Create an atmosphere in which upward communication is encouraged and motivate associates to achieve department goals and objectives
  • Ensure maintenance of driver qualification files.
  • Monitor and track company assets
  • Investigates all accidents, maintains an accident file, track causes and take appropriate preventative action.
  • Determine profitable loads that align with efficient routes
  • Sort through tenders daily, utilize TIPS system for tenders, align all tenders into driver's schedules, map routes, shop for new lanes
  • Coordinate with local rail short line handlers

    Job Requirements


    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
    • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree preferred
    • Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred

    Related Experience:

    • A minimum of four years transportation/delivery experience required.
    • One year of experience supervising and leading an hourly workforce is required.
    • Experience with cross dock operations is preferred
    • Experience with rail terminal operations is preferred


    • Ability to openly and effectively communicate with all associates
    • Ability to present recommendations to Senior Leadership to include local and Corporate Executive Staff
    • Completing tasks efficiently and effectively in a timely manner
    • Basic computer skills; intermediate MS Word, Excel and Outlook experience.
    • Must be able to use, or learn to use, all equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) i.e. Omnitrack and tools used to perform the job.
    • Must be able to perform all job functions safely.
    • Must be able to work the scheduled/assigned times and required overtime for the position.
    • Must know/have ability to learn MSDS information regarding all material used within the scope of the work.
    • Understand and interpret DOT and other state and federal regulations.
    • Excellent communication skills, problem solving, multi-tasking, coaching experience in transportation preferred.
    • Safety training experience
