Automation Engineer

Des Moines, IA


  • With minimal guidance, develops cost-effective information technology solutions by creating new or modifying existing software applications that are moderately complex.
  • Analyzes and validates moderately complex system requirements and existing business processes and information systems. 
  • Develops and implements new programs and/or modifications of existing applications. 
  • Responsible for the design, prototyping and other methodologies for new and/or existing systems including the development of test plans and program specifications with minimal interfaces.
  • Codes, tests, debugs, documents, and implements moderately complex software applications according to standards. 
  • Develops specifications and programs moderately complex technical modules, applications, prototypes and computer programs.
  • Performs all aspects of applications programming and development including file design, update, storage and retrieval.
  • Evaluates and provides technical solutions to moderately complex application development problems.
  • Job Requirements:

  • Eight years of experience in programming and systems analysis.
  • Three years of experience in project management is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of testing processes, standards and best practices
  • Test automation development experience
  • Developing automation tests from acceptance test criteria requirements
  • Understanding of one or more functional Object-Oriented programming languages; Ruby Cucumber preferred, Python or Java.
  • Writing complex queries and scripts using SQL
  • Write and execute automation for Guidewire AND/ OR ETL-Informatica applications
  • Knowledge of OOP design principles
  • Knowledge of Acceptance Test Driven Development/Test Driven Development
  • Test data management and test data profiling
  • Ability to organize and manage test assets
  • Identify and manage defects, secure fixes and re-run tests
  • Cucumber/Gherkin or equivalent behavior driven development experience
  • Collaboration /negotiation in a team environment
  • Excellent communication and people interaction skills
  • Insurance domain knowledge including Reporting and Downstream knowledge is a plus
  • Insurance industry experience is a plus
