Treasury Funding Analyst
BASIC FUNCTION: Participates in and supports liability management trading, and prepares and enhances reports for senior management on the Company's wholesale funding position, including presentations on these topics for Corporate Treasury and senior management (e.g., ALCO). Supports development, implementation and monitoring of the Company’s funding plans, and maintains documentation of planned and executed activities. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist in the execution of wholesale funding trades, analyzing funding sources (i.e. short-term money market transactions/programs, repurchase agreements, brokered deposits, Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) advances and debt issuance) and reporting activity to management to ensure their awareness. Monitor and understand regulatory, financial market and other developments in the financial services industry specific to fixed income markets and support and/or prepare summaries for management to ensure their awareness of significant issues or changes, as appropriate. Maintain current familiarity with relevant regulatory material, including the LCR (Liquidity Coverage Ratio) to support these activities. Compile the information needed to support the development of presentations that convey key elements of the wholesale liability portfolio management process and strategy in an understandable manner to senior management, ALCO and other senior management committees, if applicable. Work with outside parties, including brokers, bankers, rating agencies, trustees and other 3rd party vendors to assist in managing the wholesale liability portfolio. Compile needed information to support the negotiation process for various contractual funding agreements related to managing the wholesale liability portfolio, including but not limited to Master Repurchase Agreements and brokered funding agreements (i.e. MMDA and CD). Research economic, financial markets and regulatory issues and trends affecting the management of the wholesale liability portfolios. Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Help identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management. Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand. Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable. Complete other related duties as assigned. NATURE AND SCOPE: The wholesale liability portfolio is a significant component of the Bank’s balance sheet risk management function, as it is a primary vehicle through which liquidity risks and funding needs are managed. As such, the position supports the implementation of wholesale funding initiatives. The position interacts with other areas within the Bank, both within and outside Treasury, including Credit, Finance and Operations to communicate market information and portfolio performance. The position also interacts with the Wall Street dealer community as required to assist in managing the wholesale liability portfolio. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree, and a minimum of 1 year’s financial services related experience or lieu in of a degree, a combined minimum of 5 higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 1 year’s financial services related experience. Proven skills with pertinent spreadsheet, presentation and word processing software. Demonstrated ability to prepare concise analysis of complex topics and present to audiences. IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: Bachelor’s degree Finance or another quantitative field or advanced degree or certification in business or quantitative analysis (e.g., Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Financial Risk Manager (FRM). Familiarity with a variety of funding instruments, including short-term money market transactions/programs, repurchase agreements, brokered deposits, Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) advances and debt issuance and interest rate derivatives.
