Job Description

Nemours is seeking a Patient Services Representative I to join our team in Delaware.

To keep pace with the changing health care environment and build a healthier future for our children, Nemours has embarked on a multi-phase expansion to create a children’s hospital like no other in the region. Upon completion in June 2014, the hospital will include private, family-centered, technologically advanced patient rooms, a new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and a new expanded Emergency Department.




The Patient Services Representatives is responsible for organizing and operating the office systems related to appointment scheduling, patient intake including data verification, charge entry and cash collection, office communications, word processing.Responsibilities:

Enters and/or verifies patient/guarantor demographic and insurance information.

Schedules/cancels/reschedules and confirms patient appointments.  Appropriately statuses patient in computer system.

Handles phone calls to/from patients, physician offices, insurance companies, internal customers, etc. utilizing proper telephone etiquette.

Obtains authorization for ancillary and specialty services from insurance carriers and documents actions taken appropriately.

Collects payments from patients - including copayments, current charges and prior account balances, posts charges, provides receipts and documents all financial transactions, including charge entry at checkout.  Prepares daily cash reconcilliation and bank deposits.   Ensures work queues are up to date.

Performs template exceptions as instructed by the manager or PIC.

Completes all tasks according to Standard Business Practices.

Respects the confidentiality of all patient information.

Monitors and ensures patient safety and office cleanliness and security.

Opens, sorts and routes mail, lab and consult reports.

Participates in the departmental and system wide quality assessment and improvement activities.

Maintains positive professional relationships with providers and coworkers




Job RequirementsThe ideal candidate will have 3 to 6 months of related experience and possess the following skills:

Computer literate.

Checks status of patients waiting more than 10 minutes and advises of progress.

Monitor waiting room and keeps patient informed as to schedule delays.

Works independently and proactively.

Communicates clearly both verbally and in writing.
