The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in Surface Transportation client/staff support and business development. This discipline is responsible for successful completion of assigned projects and managing the day- to-day operations of the Surface Transportation team.Incumbent Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:General Management• Serve as a technical expert for the office• Plan, organize control, report and lead• Develop operating and growth plans, including staffing• Determine workload for team, including short-, medium- and long-term business goals and objectives• Maintain effective communication within the team and with clients• Identify, analyze and address the root causes of both personnel and project issues• Track and report on the team's monthly financial performance, sales and backlog; analyze and recommend corrective actions• Prepare monthly financial reports and attends status meetings• Review and submit for approval the team's expenditures, including conference and professional activity approval requests• Assist with the annual budget planning process, including development and projections of team's metrics and requirements for growth• Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or servicesProject Management• Plan, coordinate, develop, and monitor projects to completion• Work with multiple teams to pursue, manage and deliver projects• Establish, promote, and ensure quality on all projects and work performance• Monitor projects to proactively identify and address financial, safety and liability issues, as well as to verify completion on schedule• Identify when project requirements exceed available technical skills or manpower capacity and develops plan of action with next level management to seek help from other work units, hire new staff, and/or subcontract work, etc.• Closely monitor and manage the team's weekly sold time and direct labor to verify goals are met• Review and recommend or approve contracts and cost estimatesHR• Interface and manage both in-house, temp agency, and subcontract staff• Select and hire staff• Monitor performance of staff and provides mentoring and constructive feedback• Conduct departmental meetings and evaluates work performance of staff• Verify staff meets safety and other IE mandated training requirements• Provide staff evaluations and development plans• Verify appropriate staff obtains IE PM certificationsBusiness Development / Client Management• Prepare and implement business development programs• Assist Business Line Managers in preparing and executing portion of their sales plan, as well as in the development of new business through strategic marketing• Participate in business development activities, including planning, scheduling, client relations, marketing, proposal preparation and presentations• Maintain professional relations and contacts with clients, peers and competitors• Present and explain proposals, reports, and findings to clients• Consult or negotiate with clients to prepare project specificationsDo the best work of your life!
