Job:  Clinical Techs - CV Cath Lab Surg Vasc & Central Sterile

Central Supply Technician Job Summary: Under the direction of the O.R. Nurse Manager, the Central Supply Technicians role is to effectively decontaminate, assemble and sterilize surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation in a safe and timely manner, under the direction of the OR Manager.  This position requires knowledge of both department and facility policies and procedures relevant to the assigned duties. This role also includes support in various other areas such as inventory and supply maintenance. Assigned Duties 
  • Performs job duties in a manner, which is consistent with current standards for the job and with the Policies and Procedures of the Center.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • Assists the surgical team, as directed by the OR Manager. 
  • Ensures cleanliness of the decontamination, assembly and sterilization rooms.
  • Maintains instrument, and sterilization logs.
  • Maintains biological monitoring results.
  • Decontaminates, assembles and sterilizes surgical equipment, instruments and supplies in a manner not interrupting the smooth operation of the surgical schedule.
  • Monitors sterilizer time, pressure and temperature for adequate sterilization.
  • Assembles instrument sets according to established protocol.
  • Wears proper protective clothing during all phases of decontamination.
  • Provides additional supplies for use by the operative team as necessary.
  • Adheres to the principles of aseptic technique.
  • Assists in cleaning the operating room between cases and as necessary at the end of the day.
  • Establishes and maintains a safe environment for patients, physicians, and other staff working in the operating rooms.
  • Establishes, promotes, and maintains positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Actively participates in the Risk Management Process.
  • Actively participates in Quality Improvement.

    • Job RequirementsKnowledge, Skill, and Abilities: The Central Supply Technician is responsible for the day to day operation of the sterilization and decontamination area. This technician follows O.S.H.A. standards on bloodborne pathogens and AAMI standards for handling, sterilizing and caring for surgical equipment and supplies.  Job Qualifications include:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
    • Minimum of one (1) year experience in sterilization and decontamination.
    • Graduate of a formal surgical technologist program or equivalent training preferred .
    • Detail-oriented with ability to sustain concentration over long periods of time.
    • Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
    • Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds
