Job Description DuPont OLEDs is seeking to fill the position of Associate Investigator.  The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary process engineering and chemistry team aimed at the scale-up and commercialization of organic electronic materials.  The position will provide chemical synthesis and process support in an environment of multistep organic synthesis and purification.
 
Job Description
 
•         Process Piloting & Materials Scale-up
o    Perform multi-step organic synthesis in a kilo-lab environment.  Carry out synthesis, isolation, and purification steps using 5-L – 100-L reactors, and matching scale tanks, filtration, drying, chromatography, and evaporative and other support equipment.
o    Meet business demands for materials supply.
•         Contract Manufacturing Support
o    Write detailed technical transfer documents to communicate process instructions to contract manufacturers.
o    Review and release detailed batch records used at CMOs.
o    Provide on-site technical support for technical transfer and manufacturing operations.
•         Lab and Equipment Operations
o    Manage and maintain laboratories and reaction equipment, including writing SOPs, training other operators, equipment maintenance and upkeep, cleaning & developing cleaning procedures, and safety documentation. 
•         Process Optimization
o    Optimize individual process steps and equipment setup & design, including downstream isolation and purification methods to be carried out on commercial scale. 
o    Develop full understanding of process variables and define boundary conditions.
•         Analytical Methods Development and QA/QC Specification Setting
o    Work with analytical team to develop characterization methods for purity and impurity specifications for all raw materials, intermediates, and products.
 
Job RequirementsTechnical Experience
  • Proven expertise in multistep organic synthesis and purification.
    • Purification Experience Includes:
      • Preparative Chromatography
      • Crystallization/Filtration
      • Distillation
      • Extractions
  • The scientist needs experience in interpretation of a variety of analytical techniques and some skill in the actual application of others.
    • HPLC, UPLC, LCMS – trace measurements & impurity determination
    • GC/GCMS
    • GPC
    • Karl Fisher
    • DSC/TGA
    • ICP-MS, PIXE, NAA, & other trace metal inorganic methods
    • UV-Vis, Fluorescence, & IR Spectroscopy
    • NMR
  • OLEDs or other organic semiconductor/electronics materials a plus
 
Qualifications
  • BS/MS Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • Excellent organization and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong project management skills
