**This position is located in Wilmington, DE **This job is based on a ladder structure and the job level (salary) will be determined by the quantity and quality of your experience.As a Process Research Engineer at our Wilmington, DE facility, youwill lead the process development and scale-up of an expanding pipeline of newproducts and processes. This includes new cellulose ethers, polyacrylates,and a broad range of other specialty chemicals. You will be responsible for evaluatingthe technical and economic feasibility of new products and new processes,including preliminary capital equipment requirements and manufacturing costestimates. You will be the process technical leader on new product developmentteams to scale up and commercialize new products and new processes. A strong understanding of Chemical and Mechanical Engineering principles and experience in the area of particle technology (drying, grinding, spray drying, particle flow and morphology) is highly desired. Responsibilities include: Develop the process technology required tocommercialize new products flowing from R&DDevelop and evaluate alternative process options to facilitate decisions on product and process feasibilityInfluence product development teams to insure process considerations are part of early phase researchLead new process development projectsDirect technicians in lab and pilot plant to define process capability and evaluate process optionsOversee pilot and commercial trials to demonstrate and commercialize new products and processesDocument and transfer new process technology to manufacturingDevelop quantitative reaction and purification models for new products and process optimizationConduct vendor trials to evaluate and select manufacturing equipment for new processesSupervise lab technicians and drive a safety conscious, high performance work environment
BS, MS or PhD in Chemical EngineeringA minimum of 5 years of experience in R&D, pilot plant, process technology or engineering3+ years of experience in solids handling / particle technology highly preferredA record of successful technology or product commercializationStrong chemical engineering competency in process development and scale-upResults oriented with demonstrated leadership and strong team oriented interpersonal skillsAbility to handle multiple projects simultaneouslyDemonstrated excellent technical and communication skillsAbility to travel in US and overseas to conduct trials and provide plant support as requiredMust be authorized to work in the United States Ashland has a history of attracting the best people and keeping them.
