General Summary
Initially the primary focus will be implementing a robust automation framework that supports numerous testing functions, including regression testing, test data creation and smoke test validation of code deployments. Incumbent will be responsible for task management of 10-15 contracted automation engineers.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborates with the enterprise, release and development architects to identify architecturally significant risks and, with Release Test Management and Test Leads, implement test approaches that will mitigate those risks (40%).
Provides consultancy to the definition of the various strategies in the testing organization and is responsible for the development of the standards, frameworks and processes that deliver these strategies (15%).
Collaborates with GIG, Development and Release and Environment Management in the provision and management of test environments that are appropriate for the levels of testing that they are used for. Ensures that new systems and applications have the appropriate environments to mitigate solution risk and that they provide on-going support for these (15%).
Operate as specialist and consultant on all aspects of software testing, coaching and advising Testing Managers and IT Managers on the most appropriate and effective testing techniques for projects (10%)
Evaluates tools to support the above frameworks and processes and provides recommendations to their selection and guidance on their implementation (10%).
Provides consultancy and coaching for development staff and management into development led testing activities including, but not limited to; Unit Testing, Test Driven Development, Provisioning of Test Data through stubs and drivers, White box testing tools and techniques etc (5%).
Keeps abreast of emerging testing practices and technologies and pro-actively analyzes current processes and practices and suggests and drives improvements (5%).
May perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Expert understanding of testing methodologies and frameworks (for example TMMi or TPI) and associated industry good practices and the proven ability to apply these to mitigate product risk.
Expert understanding of automated and/or performance test tools Good working knowledge of various infrastructure components including networking, messaging, data, Unix shell scripts and web-applications and proficient in some.
Proficient with V-model, Waterfall and Iterative development methodologies and good knowledge of agile development approaches.
Excellent communication skills and is able to coach technical staff and influence teams and management through a matrixed organization.
Ability to think strategically and provide long term solutions to test related issues such as testability, usability, performance etc.
Proficient in speaking candidly and delivering constructive feedback in a professional manner to all IT and business disciplines. Strong ability to communicate very technical topics in a non-technical manner.
Proficient in either automated or performance test scripting languages.
Good understanding of data and process modeling, logical and physical design tools and techniques an understanding how testing can mitigate risks associated with various technologies and designs.
