Job Description

The Monitor Technician functions under the direction of the professional nurse. The monitor technician is responsible for cardiac monitor observation and reporting of cardiac rhythm changes to the nursing staff for further investigation when indicated.

The Monitor technician will demonstrate knowledge appropriate to the age of the patients served.

Demonstration of knowledge will include principles of growth and development and interpretation of information and data to identify the patient's age-specific needs.

Performs secretarial and general office work as required by the functions of  the assigned nursing department to support the delivery of safe and efficient patient care. Duties may include scheduling appointments, registering patients, greeting customers, receiving telephone messages, entering non pharmacy orders, entering charges and statistics (from data) into computer and all other duties required to support the flow of information within the department and the hospital.

Performs other duties incidental to the work described herein.

Job Requirements

Education:

- High School Graduate or GED certificate Experience

- EMT Certification (preferred)

- Recent nurse extender experience (desired)

- Cardiac monitoring experience (desired)

- Will provide a basic dysrhythmia course, successful completion of this course is required within thirty (30) days of hire.

Abilities: - Must possess communication, writing skills, physical/emotion stamina

   - Ability to see and watch a computer monitor for extended periods of time without difficultly
