Responsibilities :

 Environmental & Regulatory Field Technician (E&R FT) is expected to serve as a key link between the Environmental and Regulatory Support group and asset operations (Production, Wells, Projects) in the field. One key aspect of this position is heightening awareness around environmental and regulatory requirements at the across the asset. The position is responsible for supporting all aspects of environmental and regulatory compliance for their asset. It is expected that the E&R FT will have responsibilities for oversight and support of various programs at the asset level with accountabilities back to the business and the Environmental and Regulatory support group. 
  • Develop and project manage the Environmental and Regulatory Compliance management systems, work processes and annual assurance and review programs that will enable the asset to achieve business objectives and manage risk
  • Support the asset to ensure compliance with internal Shell standards and HSE-MS systems
  • Provide technical support and expertise in maintain the Unconventional Operating Principles
  • Provide subject matter expertise and/or network with appropriate specialists to provide operational regulatory compliance advice to the asset
  • Provide support and expertise to the business in the areas of GHG compliance and energy management
  • Assess shell compliance systems and recommend and champion continuous improvement and waste elimination initiatives
  • Participate or lead environmental or compliance incident investigations
  • Provide expertise and guidance to operations and projects in operational environmental and regulatory compliance through own expertise and through networks throughout Shell
  • Manage the planning of the Unconventional annual compliance review, self assessment and continuous improvement process and oversee delivery against plan
  • Champion waste elimination opportunities

  • Clear understanding of permit and regulatory requirements at the asset. Clear understanding of Shell’s Operating Principles and internal requirements at the asset. Partner with asset to develop and document compliance systems to meet these requirements
  • Key focal point on reporting all for environmental metrics (ENC, LOPC, Spills) Assure consistency between requirements and what is reported
  • Partner with asset operations (including regular meetings and feedback) to deliver against requirements
  • SME for day to day compliance issues that arise at the asset
  • Coordinate and lead environmental and regulatory training for site HSE Tech’s and operations personnel
  • Support HSE Tech’s in delivering against site HSE requirements 
  • Participate in / lead asset and cross business self assessment processes

    • B.Sc. or related engineering degree plus preferred 5 years of experience working with operations
    • Ability to challenge status quo and strive for practical and effective solutions that deliver value to the business
    • Experience in regulatory and environmental legislation and compliance requirements
    • Experience in the Upstream oil and gas industry, in particular Unconventional. Operational site experience would be considered an asset
    • Experience in GHG emissions monitoring requirements
    • Ability to work independently as well as effectively network across Shell
    • Computer literacy – basic knowledge of Microsoft applications
    • Competency and experience in incident investigations would be considered an asset
