Hughes Network Systems is looking for a HP Openview Systems Engineer to support our IT department in Germantown, Maryland.

  • This position is responsible for the development and deployment of all monitoring needs and change management database (CMDB). 
  • The individual will work with various groups withing IT and outside of IT to define requirements, understand the application being used and provide strategic deployment and implementation guidelines to monitor the services being offered.
  • In addition this position will help with UNIX operation systems issues, data storage and other data center related issues. 
  • The system currently being used for monitoring in HPOpenview. 
  • The position is also responsible for recommending and implementing new solutions with repect to monitoring needs for applications/services and infrastructure.
    • Job RequirementsBS degree requiredMS degree preferred 

    10+ years of experience in setting up enterprise tools, configuration and administration, HPUX, Network Node Manager (NNM) Experience

    10 years of OpenView experience.

    Experience with Operating systems such as Linux and Microsoft

    Experience with security and networking

    Experience with working with auditors, SAS 70

    Experience with Applications such as PeopleSoft and Oracle and the ability to understand complex application architectures and model how complex architectures communicate and depend on architecture components

    Experience with designing new system and monitoring architectures

    Ability to create network designs and/or understand network designs and system designs in order to create and implement root cause models and implement monitoring at critical points.

    Set up and configure HP Business Availability Center (BAC), HP Operations Manager (OM) and HP SiteScope.

    Integration of HP BAC, NNM and HP OM using uCMDB

    Installation of agents on multiple components and on multiple platforms.

    Set up and configure hardware level monitors

    Configuration of various service parameters to monitor operating system, database and web services like apache, tomcat, IIS, . Net etc

    Experience on configuration and set up for datacenter environment

    Study of existing tool setup, scripts and migration of services to new tools like HP BAC, HP OM and HP SiteScope.
