Job Description

The Direct Care Training Resources department is looking to hire a new member to join the Devereux Direct Care Training Resources team. The candidate will be a certified Safe & Positive Approaches Trainer with outstanding skills and extensive experience training these curricula.



As  National Training Specialist, you will:

- Serve as an integral member of the DCTR team, contributing to a strong organizational culture of employee learning and development.

- Have the opportunity to travel to a wide array of service-settings located throughout the nation, provide consultation and training, and exchange ideas and practices with treatment and education professionals.

- Impact staff competencies and professional growth by developing and conducting train-the-trainer programs.

- Participate in the design and development of curricular materials and resources (classroom, e-learning, and blended learning methods) that improve staff performance.

- Evaluate training programs and revise, recommend and implement enhancements as indicated.

- Develop marketing skills by establishing partnerships with internal and external customers of DCTR.

- Help make a positive impact on the lives of the many children, adolescents and adults entrusted to the care of the organizations we serve.     

Job Requirements

    To qualify, the National Training Specialist will have:

    -          Trainer certifications in Safe & Positive Approaches (SPA) * Staff Effectiveness, Safety Techniques and Personal Emergency Interventions are required, with extensive experience training these curricula and the ability to perform all physical skills with technical accuracy and expertise.

    -          Masters degree preferred. Bachelor*s degree in psychology, human services, training/employee learning and development or related field along with relevant experience will be considered.

    -          Minimum of 5 years of experience conducting staff training. With minimum of 2 years of direct care/direct support experience with varied client populations (preferably working with individuals with autism spectrum disorders, intellectual/developmental disabilities, and/or mental health/behavioral challenges).

    -          Instructor certifications in New Directions (Social Learning and Life Skills) and QPR (for Suicide prevention) are strongly preferred.

    -          Experience implementing employee learning and performance management activities, including a thorough understanding of adult learning theory, experience in curriculum design, and knowledge and expertise in training/teaching methods, blended learning, assessment and evaluation.

    -          Basic understanding of behavioral principles (ABA), and experience applying strategies and systems of positive behavioral interventions and support. Experience applying concepts and systems of trauma-informed care.

    -          General knowledge in the basics of body mechanics, functional movement and fitness.  Prior experience teaching and performing physical skills/activity is preferred.

    -          Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, presentation skills, customer service and multi-tasking skills.Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, e-learning and presentation software (i.e., PowerPoint, Excel and Word).
