The position requires handling all aspects of the litigation process in the defense of PIP lawsuits under the direction of the managing attorney. The position may also entail BI, UM, glass, and subrogation lawsuits and the prosecution of certain lawsuits such as subrogation matters on behalf of Infinity. May also include pre-suit matters. Must have experience to handle pleadings, discovery, depositions, motions, legal research, and court appearances. Duties include the review, assessment, and handling of these matters from inception until trial. Minimum of one year of civil litigation experience handling litigated cases in Florida. Trial experience preferred.
PURPOSE OF POSITION:Provides general paralegal support for the office.SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES:*1. Assists attorneys with the preparation of responses to discovery, including meeting with clients when necessary.*2. Assists with preparation of cases for trial. Sends out discovery requests. Monitors compliance with discovery by all parties and prepares motions as appropriate.3. Assists attorneys with investigation of cases. Obtains medical, insurance, employment and/or other records/information, through record requests or subpoenas. Assists with the drafting of motions, briefs and other documents.*4. Communicates with clients, claims adjusters, litigation specialists, attorneys' offices, medical provider offices, police departments, courts and agents to request additional information/documentation as assigned.5. Sets up legal file jackets, as needed. Maintains summary of all records received by case, for attorneys and other claims personnel.*6. Performs legal research at the request of the attorneys.*7. Contacts clients to help attorneys schedule in-person appointments, answer discovery and arrange for appearances.8. Assists with completion of projects.*9. Must have regular predictable attendance.10. Performs all other duties as assigned.________________________________________________________________________________________ParalegalWORKING RELATIONSHIPS:INTERNAL: Interacts with employees at all levels.EXTERNAL: Communicates with insureds, claimants, attorney’s offices, medical provider offices, body shop personnel, Police departments and others.SUPERVISION EXERCISED: NoneSPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND/OR SKILL REQUIREMENTS:1. Paralegal certificate preferred.2. A minimum of two years of experience in drafting discovery documents and responses, summarizing claims files and medical records and interviewing clients.2. Minimum typing skills of 28 wpm with accuracy of 95%.3. Must be familiar with operation of general office equipment including calculator, fax machine, copy machine, etc.4. Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and time management skills required.5. Prior PC experience required including knowledge of word processing software. Knowledge of law office management, time billing and legal research software preferred.SPECIAL DEMANDS OR WORKING CONDITIONS:1. Position requires dealing with unpleasant people in a polite and courteous manner.2. Requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, and squat up to 3 hours per day and sit for periods of up to 6 hours per day.3. Requires the ability to lift and carry small items (0-5 lbs.) up to 6 hours per day and larger items (up to 10 lbs.) up to 3 hours per day.4. Requires the ability to push and pull items (0-30 lbs.) up to 3 hours per day.5. Requires the ability to repetitively move, grasp, and manipulate hands for up to 8 hours per day.6. Requires the ability to use a keyboard up to 8 hours per day.
