Performs venipunctures, heel sticks, and finger sticks to obtain blood samples for testing purposes. Properly identifies patients and follows procedures for collection of specimens. Ensures that all information from the blood collection of specimens is entered into the laboratory computer system including time drawn, time received, and proper phlebotomy code. Collects chain of custody urine drug screens for pre-employment, post-accident, and just cause cases using proper collection procedures as set forth by NIDA. Picks up samples from nursing units as required. Processes specimens for testing according to testing needs. Checks and ensures paperwork relating to test orders are complete and contain all needed medical record information. Processes and prepares specimens for specialized send-out tesing. Maintains a professional attitude and promotes expectional customer service to patients, physicians, and clients. Plays a critical role in front end laboratory opperations. Performs other related functions as assigned by the lab Manager.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience: One year Phlebotomy experience preferred.
Certification/License: Current BLS Certification or obtain per Hospital Policy; maintain such certification; Phlebotomist certification preferred
