Job Description

Seeking experienced Network Technician for long term role located in Bear, DE. Ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of basic networking and server hardware specific to the SDLC of data center equipment.   Basic responsibilities would include but not limited to:

 

  • Troubleshooting server hardware/connectivity
  • Escorting vendors
  • Racking servers
  • Running copper and fiber cabling
  • Performing de-commissioning functions
  •  

    Data Center Technician will be responsible for:

  • Installation of new server racks
  • Racking and stacking servers and other network hardware within a data center environment
  • Installing support hardware for all devices to be installed into cabinets on raised floor
  • Labeling all devices and cables per client standards
  • Understanding and ensure data center redundancy requirements
  • Installing new patch cabling and cable management compliance
  • Decommissioning of redundant equipment and cabling.
  • Management and tracking of assets.
  • Manage third party vendors within a large data center to ensure compliance with change control, specifications and quality standards.
  • Compliance with client support services approved processes.
  • Providing on-site and remote troubleshooting and diagnosis of various computer and networking systems.
  • Performing upgrades, configuration maintenance, and repairs of system hardware.
  • Installing, configuring, troubleshooting, administrating and maintaining servers and network equipment.

    The schedule will be 12 hour shifts, running from 12 AM to 12 PM with a work schedule of 3-2-2-3 (work 3 days, off 2 days, work 2 days, off 3 days) which results in a 3 day weekend every other weekend.

     

    Job Requirements  

    EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

    • A strong working knowledge data center processes and design (power, cooling, redundancy).
    • Functional knowledge of network and network hardware is required, especially at the enterprise level.
    • Hands on expertise of midrange systems in large scale (1000+ servers) environments-  HP & Dell server hardware
    • Ability to document complex problem resolution summaries and repetitive tasks
    • Ability to demonstrate effective teaming and interpersonal skills
    • Exceptional troubleshooting and problem resolution skills
    • Expertise with day-to-day data center operation tasks, including rack/stack, network switch/port configuration, server decommissioning
    • Also experience with Data Center incident resolution, asset management, and logistics
    • Critical thinking and decision making related to outage risk assessment
    • Strong cable management skills and experience managing fiber & copper in a data center environment.

    Desired Skills:

      • Previous experience working in a complex high availability data center environment
      • ESX, Linux, UNIX knowledge and experience working within complex technical environments is a bonus, but hardware understanding critical. 
      • Technical writing and documentation skills are preferred
